DanceInTime's Current Email Information

Hola!

If you are already a Salsa dancer and want to take your dancing to the next level, learning the Casino-style Salsa steps that are used in Rueda circles is an amazingly fast and easy way to skyrocket your "vocabulary of moves!"

Note we have two new, metro accessible locations.

We ARE holding classes on Mother's Day (5/11).

Regular Class Schedule:

1. The Saturday DIT classes are now at the Crown Dance Studio; 2820 Dorr Ave.; Fairfax, VA 22031.  The class will continue to run from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and cover all levels of Casino style Salsa/Rueda.

2. The Sunday class at Avalon Studio (15 Mellor Ave. Catonsville, MD) is held weekly from 5 to 7 PM and covers all levels of Salsa Rueda.

3.  Starting May 15, there will be a class at the Saffron Dance Studio; 3260 Wilson Blvd.; Arlington, VA from 8:30 to 10:00 PM. This class will generally meet on the first and third Thursdays of each month.  The May and June dates are 5/15,  6/5 and 6/29.  The Classes page of DanceInTime.com also has the up to date schedule!
----------
We cover a lot in every class. The cost of the classes is $10/person.

Here is the DIT news:

1.  DIT Special Events/Workshops:

a. On Saturday, May 24, Danceintime is conducting an entire two and a half hour special event--with lessons, performances and open dancing to the sounds of Grupo Latino (live band).  This will be on the City of Gaithersburg's outdoor stage located at 31 South Summit Ave.; Gaithersburg, MD 20877.  This is a family friendly event that is free and open to the public.

The show will include both team and partnership presentations.  In addition, I'll be writing a script so the dance segments will be threaded together by a loose theme/story line.  And we'll also be doing something else very unique.  The audience will watch some Rueda steps and formations, and then if they wish to, some of them will work together to order these components and create their own choreography which the dancers will then dance through.  It will give audience members a chance to see what it's like to be a choreographer!  Want to try your hand at choreography??  Come and give it a whirl!   And there's more--a young teenager whose mom in one a DIT team-members, will perform too. This young lady does some ultra cool hip hop moves, and her short dance solo will be intended to inspire any children in the audience who like to dance.  Come and enjoy this really original show by DanceInTime!

b. I'm proud to say that Danceintime will have a team performing at the Philadelphia Salsa Congress, the New York Salsa Congress, and the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress this year (and probably at the DC Congress!).   These Congresses are all in the summer and they are open to any Salsa enthusiasts!  It would be lovely for some of our friends to come to these events---to cheer us on and enjoy the workshops and open dancing! Specifics and dates will be coming so stay tuned!

c. DIT wll perform at this year's Artscape Festival, on July 20.  If you are an intermediate Rueda dancer and would like to participate, please let me know.  We'll be doing, among other things, one open calling Rueda that will include basic and early intermediate steps.

2.  Lessons in Polynesian Dance and Ballroom/Salsa

a. Are you interested in private instruction in Salsa, Mambo, or any ballroom dance? A gentleman named John who recently moved to the area and has a variety of competitive titles to his name is available for private lessons. He is a great guy and fabulous dancer if anyone would like to pursue instruction with him!  John's email if you want to be in touch with him is: johndancealexandria@yahoo.com

b. Sheena Luaehu, who choreographed the Polynesian piece for the Danceintime women's team, is going to be offering instruction in that dance style.  If you watch Sheena do Salsa, you can see how the body isolations that she learned as a Polynesian dancer help her Salsa look eye-catching, too!  There is plenty of carry-over between the Polynesian dancing and Salsa in terms of styling and making the dance sharp and (dare I say it?) sexy-looking!  The class is 50 minutes and costs $12.  Sheena provides each student with a hip scarf to use during that day's class-which enables you to better see the hip movements. If you want to watch this dancing, check out the Women in Salsa video on the DanceInTime.com website--on the "Performance Videos" page.

To get more information on Sheena's classes, contact her at sluaehulyons@hotmail.com.  I'm telling you, guys, these moves are very very cool and will enhance your Salsa.  (Men are welcome to join though the class is principally aimed at followers'/ladies' movements.)

3. Meetup to dance in Baltimore area and other locations!

There is a Baltimore Salsa Meetup which is gathering steam, with members coming out in good numbers to the events which support all the venues and classes in the Baltimore metropolitan area. If you aren't already a member, you can sign up free by going to salsa.meetup.com/163 and following the prompts. There are other meetup groups as well, in case you are interested, in DC and other areas. For example, one run by Alex, a Danceintime friend, is aimed at "social dancing" in general (all different types of partnership dances), and is based in Baltimore. It's called Social Dance Meetup Group of Central Maryland. To join, go to: Dance.meetup.com/351/. And the salsa meetup group in DC is absolutely huge, plus there are other dance meetups as well! Check them out on the web!

By the way, speaking of Baltimore, that area has a number of new venues to dance at that were recently organized.  The promoters are looking for lots of support at the door and the bar to help keep these venues open.  For details, check out #3 below in the section on additional events/clubs around town.
